School Project: Rainbow Self Portrait.
We will start off the year with each grade doing a little piece of a larger mural. We are going to talk about the older version of a "Selfie" or in the art world is known as a Self Portrait. I will start by showing students famous and not so famous art Self Portraits in many different styles and mediums. We will talk about the differences and similarities of these Self Portraits and why they like or don't like them. (Example above is the goal. This was done by another school.)
Each student will get an index card and a color limit. Each different class will have a different color or set of colors. They will use crayons, colored pencils and markers. We will talk about size and the different shapes of the face. We will also talk about hairlines, how ears go in the middle of the head, how the eyes line up with the ears, The nose goes half way in between the eyes and the chin and lips half way between nose and chin. Students will be able to decorate the background as they wish.
