Daruma Doll
Project Description: Students will create their own version of a Daruma Doll. We don't want to copy the Japanese traditional Daruma Doll, but be inspired by the original idea to make our own design. You need to model your Daruma Doll design around popular figures in our current culture. (Our Daruma inspired dolls will be hand size.)

Building your Daruma Doll:
Helpful Tips:
-We don't have the hex nut to glue to the bottom of the egg, so I will provide some options near the glue guns on the back counter to provide some weight. It won't be as heavy, but will help keep your doll upright.
-When you create your Daruma Doll you want to try to not only make the basic shape, but also attempt to add additional shapes and features (such as the hood around the traditional Daruma face or the feet for the base).
-You also want to try to smooth the paper mache material as much as possible to create a clean and easy to paint surface.
-After you paint your Daruma Doll you can also look through the craft cabinets for extra features to glue on such as feathers, beads, buttons or anything that could enhance your design.
-We can spray these with a clear coat of spray paint when they are finished to protect the paint and give it the glossy look like the traditional dolls.
GOALS:
-Paper mache is mixed, packed, and applied to create form and a base for painting the Daruma features.
-Paper mache is as smooth as you can get it. (Unless you are creating something where bumpy texture would make sense.)
-Painted neatly. No matter what kind of Daruma Doll creature you are creating it needs to have two eyes that are not completely painted in. (When you goal or wish is made you paint the first eye, when the goal or wish has come true then you paint the other eye.)
-Overall creative design that resembles a character popular of our modern culture. (Since this is not a difficult construction project, this give you the freedom to think outside of the box and really create something unique.)
