Acrylic Self Portraits
Project Description: Students will create a self portrait using IMPLIED TEXTURE and COLOR THEORY along with CONTOUR LINES. The painting will consist of two layers, bottom layer will be an acrylic textured background and the top transparency layer will be the portrait with contrasting color added.
What is Implied Texture?
Implied, or visual, texture may be simulated or invented or created to look like another object.
Step 1: Create a background of IMPLIED TEXTURE paint.
Step 2: Trace the CONTOUR LINES of your self portrait on a transparency sheet. (You will be tracing with a sharpie. The video shows you how to trace your portrait.)
Step 3: Paint your hair, clothes and other details with a CONTRASTING color on the opposite side of your sharpie.
Then put your background and portrait together for the finished look.
Learning Targets:
-Background shows evidence of IMPLIED TEXTURE and good color choices.
-Portrait is nicely outlined with sharpie and looks like artists.
-Contrasting colors are chosen and painted on portrait (clothes and hair) to make the portrait stand out from the background.
-Everything assembled together neatly.
